The villages began to form with the arrival of the Romans in this area, showing the architecture of Roman, Arab, Jewish and Castilian culture, which is also reflected in the typical food; so you should not pass through the area without visiting some of the villages.
From any point of the valley you can appreciate the variety of landscapes. There are many activities on offer, including numerous cultural and gastronomic routes through its traditional villages, plus the sports you can practice, such as trekking, climbing, paragliding; or enjoy the reservoirs, the varied fauna and flora and the streams flowing through their gorges creating incredible waterfalls.
Without doubt the star of this valley is the gorge of Los Gaitanes or Garganta del Chorro, reaching up to 400 meters high and three kilometers long, and many tourists and adventurers come to enjoy the vastness of this impressive place. This route is known as The path of the King, but unfortunately here we have to utter a word of warning: The path is currently closed to the public for being too dangerous.
However, the scenery of the valley is beautiful and there are many other places in which to enjoy, without putting lives at risk. The Guadalhorce Valley is definitely a great choice for day trips near Malaga.
